AthenaHQ is a San Francisco GEO platform that tracks brands across up to 11 AI engines and turns results into content and outreach tasks. The free Essential plan includes 300 credits. Starter costs $295 a month for 3,600 credits, and one credit buys one AI response. The model pays off for weekly tracking. Tracked daily, Starter covers at most 39 prompts on three engines (as of 26 October 2026).

A note before we start: Alexandrya.AI is our own product and competes directly with AthenaHQ. We do not use AthenaHQ ourselves. This review is based on publicly documented features and prices, namely AthenaHQ’s pricing page, credit calculator, integrations page and documentation, all accessed on 26 October 2026 and checked again on 29 October 2026. You can reproduce every figure in the worked table with the credit calculator yourself.

How much does AthenaHQ cost?

AthenaHQ sells three plans. Essential is free and includes 300 credits for five engines. Starter costs $295 a month, or $245 a month billed annually, and includes 3,600 credits for 11 engines. Enterprise is priced by contract. On Starter, extra credits and API access are paid add-ons with no published price. Users, topics, prompts and competitors are unlimited according to the pricing page.

PlanPrice per monthCreditsEnginesWhat else you get

Enterprisecustomnegotiated11, more on requestseveral countries and languages, SAML SSO, audit log, BI dashboards, dedicated Slack channel, two-hour SLA

There is nothing between 300 free credits and 3,600 credits for $295. If you outgrow Starter, you either buy extra credits at a price only the sales team will quote, or you negotiate Enterprise.

The pricing page places a “$300/month free credit” note next to the 3,600 Starter credits and a “$25 free credit” note next to the 300 Essential credits. Both work out at 12 credits per dollar, or roughly 8.3 cents per credit. That figure is the best yardstick available while AthenaHQ publishes no list price for add-on credits.

How AthenaHQ credits work

Every AI response on AthenaHQ costs credits. Responses from ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot cost 1 credit each, while Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral cost 5 credits each. AthenaHQ’s credit calculator works out monthly usage as prompts × locations × credits per response × days per week × 4.33 weeks. Prompts are unlimited on Starter; credits are what cap them.

Four settings drive consumption. You pick the cadence by switching weekdays on or off during setup, anywhere from one to seven days a week. Each extra location runs the same prompt set again. Personas add prompt variations on top of the baseline run. Optional prompt expansion sends three rephrasings with every prompt, so each response counts four times.

Here is one example from the calculator: 50 prompts, one location, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, three days a week. That comes to 150 credits per run, 450 per week and 1,949 per month. The documentation describes a credit log that records every charge, a warning when usage is on pace to exceed the limit, and extra packages you can buy monthly or as a one-off. It does not say whether unused credits roll over.

How many prompts do 3,600 credits buy?

With the 3,600 credits in AthenaHQ Starter, you can track 39 prompts a day on three 1-credit engines, or 23 prompts on five of them. Add Claude to four standard engines and you are down to 13 prompts. Measured weekly instead, 150 prompts on five engines fit inside the allowance. Every figure comes from AthenaHQ’s credit calculator, accessed on 26 October 2026.

Cadence costs more than prompt count. Moving from weekly to daily multiplies usage by seven, and adding Claude to four standard engines raises the cost of each prompt run from 4 to 9 credits.

Our own project shows how quickly a budget like this runs out. Alexandrya.AI tracks 38 prompts a day there across four to five platforms. The 30 daily scans between 27 September and 26 October 2026 produced 5,089 responses (Alexandrya.AI’s own measurement, as of 26 October 2026, 38 tracked prompts). In AthenaHQ terms that is 5,089 credits even if only 1-credit engines ran, or just over 40% more than Starter includes.

In money terms, one response on Starter costs 8.2 cents on monthly billing and 6.8 cents on annual billing, as long as the allowance lasts. A response from Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI or Mistral costs five times as much, around 41 cents. What a response costs beyond 3,600 credits depends on the add-on price, which AthenaHQ does not publish.

Which AI engines does AthenaHQ track?

AthenaHQ tracks 11 engines on Starter: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral. Further models are available on request. The free Essential plan runs ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot, and the documentation says the other six need a paid plan.

Eleven engines on a self-serve plan is a lot. The catch is the price per response, because five of those 11 engines cost five credits. If you need DeepSeek or Mistral, AthenaHQ covers ground that Alexandrya.AI does not, but you pay for it with far fewer prompts or less frequent checks.

AthenaHQ features beyond monitoring

AthenaHQ splits its platform into three areas. Monitor tracks visibility, mentions, citations, sentiment and competitors. Insights traces results back to sources, content gaps and technical causes, including pages that AI crawlers cannot reach. The Action Center turns that into work along three tracks: content creation, citation outreach and commerce optimisation for product content.

The integration list is long. AthenaHQ names 17 connections, among them Google Analytics 4, Google Search Console (search queries become tracked prompts), Google Ads, Shopify, WordPress, Webflow, Contentful, Sanity, Framer, Wix, Payload CMS, Looker Studio and weekly Slack reports. Through MCP you can connect ChatGPT, Claude and other MCP clients, check share of voice and cited sources, create content briefs and manage tracked prompts. There is also an API, sold as a paid add-on on Starter. The pricing page only assigns Shopify, Webflow, GA4 and Search Console to a plan, all from Starter upwards.

Some features are reserved for Enterprise: the Athena Recommendation Engine, persona targeting, the Athena Citation Engine, the advanced content optimisation agent, multiple countries and the executive dashboard for Tableau, Power BI and Looker.

Where AthenaHQ is strong

  • Engine coverage is wide, with 11 engines on the first paid plan, DeepSeek and Mistral among them.
  • Cadence is up to you. If you check a few prompts now and then, you pay little, and the credit calculator shows the usage before you commit.
  • The path from analysis to publishing is short. Articles go straight to WordPress, Webflow, Contentful and other CMSs, and product copy to Shopify.
  • The MCP server can write as well as read. You can create content briefs and prompts from inside ChatGPT or Claude.
  • Essential is a permanent free plan with five engines.
  • The AthenaHQ homepage lists SOC II Type 2, GDPR compliance and NIST CSF 2.0 Tier 3.

Where AthenaHQ falls short

Daily tracking gets expensive. From 40 prompts on three engines, Starter no longer covers it, and the rest has no published price. That means you cannot pin down a monthly budget until you have spoken to sales. Whether unused credits expire is not documented publicly either.

The jump between plans is steep: from free straight to $295, with no tier for small teams. Multiple countries arrive only on Enterprise, so Starter covers a single country. Billing is in US dollars. And the features that turn data into priorities, the Recommendation Engine and persona targeting, also sit on Enterprise.

AthenaHQ or Alexandrya.AI?

AthenaHQ and Alexandrya.AI differ most in how they bill. AthenaHQ sells a credit budget that you spread across prompts, engines and weekdays yourself. Alexandrya.AI sells fixed prompt quotas with daily tracking and a set number of selectable models. Tracking 50 prompts on three engines every day takes 4,547 credits a month on AthenaHQ, while the Alexandrya.AI Starter plan covers it for €79.

Alexandrya.AI is an AI visibility tool from Munich that measures brand mentions in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Bing Copilot and turns them into content and citation tasks.

AthenaHQ leads on engine range, integrations, CMS publishing and an MCP server that can write. Alexandrya.AI leads on daily tracking. Apply AthenaHQ’s own formula to a fully used quota and one response costs 1.7 cents on the Alexandrya.AI Starter plan (€79 for 4,547 responses), 0.9 cents on Professional and 0.75 cents on Business. On AthenaHQ Starter it is 8.2 cents. The currencies differ, and we have not converted them.

Alexandrya.AI has its own limits. It has no SKU tracking, no alerts, no Slack connection and no CMS publishing, the API is Enterprise only and the MCP server is read only. Below Enterprise, five models at most are active, and DeepSeek and Mistral are not available. Alexandrya.AI’s agency plans are also credit-based, for example Essential with around 110 prompts for €189. Full plan details are on the Alexandrya.AI pricing page.

Who is AthenaHQ worth it for?

AthenaHQ is worth it for teams that check prompts weekly or on a few days a week, want many engines including Claude, DeepSeek or Mistral, and publish content straight from the tool to a CMS or Shopify. For daily tracking of more than 39 prompts, Starter is not enough. At that point a fixed quota such as Alexandrya.AI’s is easier to budget, from €79 for 50 prompts.

Side-by-side guide to when AthenaHQ fits and when Alexandrya.AI fits, by cadence, engines, publishing and budgeting

Which billing model fits which team. Our own assessment based on both pricing pages, as of 26 October 2026.

AthenaHQ fits if you:

  • track weekly or on two to three days a week,
  • need DeepSeek, Mistral or several 5-credit engines for a small prompt set,
  • want to publish articles and product copy from inside the tool,
  • want Slack reports, GA4 and Search Console in the same place,
  • want to start for free with five engines.

Alexandrya.AI fits if you:

  • want to track 50 or more prompts every day,
  • need a fixed monthly price without usage maths,
  • work through recommendations as tasks with a status across your team,
  • bill in euros and need several countries from €199.

Two figures are missing from AthenaHQ’s public pages, and both decide the real bill: the price of add-on credits and the rule for unused credits. Together they determine whether a month with many new prompts costs $295 or a good deal more.

Frequently asked questions

Is AthenaHQ free?

Partly. The Essential plan is free and includes 300 credits for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot, enough for example for 20 prompts on five engines run three times. That is not enough for regular tracking. The first paid plan, Starter, costs $295 a month (as of 26 October 2026).

What is one AthenaHQ credit?

One credit equals one AI response. A response from ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini or Copilot costs 1 credit, and a response from Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI or Mistral costs 5 credits. With prompt expansion switched on, every response counts four times, because three rephrasings run alongside it.

How many prompts can I track daily on AthenaHQ Starter?

With 3,600 credits a month, at most 39 prompts on three 1-credit engines or 23 prompts on five of them. With Claude in a five-engine mix, the figure drops to 13 prompts. Tracked weekly, 150 prompts on five engines fit. These numbers come from AthenaHQ's own credit calculator, accessed on 26 October 2026.

Does AthenaHQ track Claude?

Yes, from the Starter plan at $295 a month. Claude is not available on the free Essential plan. A Claude response costs 5 credits instead of 1 on AthenaHQ, which eats into the allowance quickly. On Alexandrya.AI, Claude is one of the selectable models and counts against the quota like any other model.

Does AthenaHQ have an API and MCP?

Yes. Its MCP server connects ChatGPT, Claude and other MCP clients to your account and lets you create content briefs and manage prompts as well as query data. The API is a paid add-on on Starter with no published price and is included on Enterprise. Alexandrya.AI offers read-only MCP from Professional and an API on Enterprise.

Which is cheaper, AthenaHQ or Alexandrya.AI?

For daily tracking, Alexandrya.AI is cheaper: 50 prompts on three models cost €79 on its Starter plan, while on AthenaHQ the same setup needs 4,547 credits and overruns the $295 Starter plan. For weekly tracking across many engines, AthenaHQ can come out cheaper, for example 150 prompts on five engines within Starter.
